Today, in a connected world the first and most important component of a marketing strategy for your law firm is to putt your law firm on the map and this is achieved it trough the use of a search engine optimization strategy SEO for your law firm. Now you will be asking but how I can achieve this? The first part of a SEO strategy for your law firm is the development of what we call the The Trifecta of search engine optimization.

The content of your website is important, incoming links are great, but the first three things Google, Yahoo and Bing look at are: (1) the web page address (URL), (2) the meta tag title of your web page, and (3) the meta tag description of your web page. If you score the Trifecta of SEO, the search engines cannot ignore you. In retrospect, I now see that this approach makes perfect sense, but it took me months of trial and error to discover it and obviously most of the so-called experts still have not. Oh, they know that these factors are important, but they do not apply them properly. A simple example illustrates why and how the Trifecta approach works.

Say you are an attorney, practicing elder abuse law in Boulder, Colorado. Now, along comes your prospective client, Joan. Joan lives in Boulder, and she is very upset that when she went to see her mother at the nursing home this morning, she had some severe bed sores. Joan wants to talk to an attorney about her mother’s situation, to see if anything can be done. She has never used the services of an attorney before, and doesn’t know anyone who has pursued an elder abuse case, so she has no one to call for a referral. Many will tell you that Joan will talk to her trusted friends to try to get a referral to a good attorney, but in reality do you think Joan is going to wait days to try to find someone who knows an appropriate attorney, while her mother suffers with bed sores? Depending on her age and comfort level with computers, Joan might go to the yellow pages to search for an attorney, but today it is far more likely that she will sit down at her computer and do an Internet search. I reviewed six different research studies on this, and they all state that 75 to 85 percent of the time potential clients find attorneys through the Internet, or at least use the Internet at some point in the process. In other words, even if Joan does get a referral from a friend, she will likely research that attorney on the Internet. It is safe to say that three out of four potential clients will search for an attorney using the Internet (75% of the time on Google, 10% on Yahoo, 10% on Bing, and 5% on some other search engine).
